About Kegonsa Capital Partners

Introduction

Kegonsa Capital Partners, LLC ("KCP") is a Wisconsin-based venture capital management firm. KCP is the general partner of the Kegonsa Seed Fund I, LP (the "Seed Fund"), a seed stage investment fund, and the managing member of the Kegonsa Coinvest Fund I, LLC (the "Coinvest Fund"), a growth stage investment fund.

History

KCP began operations July 1, 2004. KCP's headquarters have been located in Dane County, Wisconsin since 2004. KCP is currently headquartered at 101 Nob Hill Road, Madison WI 53713.

The Seed Fund had its final closing January 15, 2005 with $10.7 million of committed capital and 38 Limited Partners, including managing director Ken Johnson. Johnson has committed $500,000 as an investor in the Seed Fund. The Seed Fund has invested $8.7 million in 13 Seed Fund portfolio companies since its first investment in April 2005.

KCP also manages the Coinvest Fund, which invests in early stage and growth companies. The Coinvest Fund invests by forming LLC investment groups composed of Coinvest Fund members who elect to participate in a particular offering. To date, the Coinvest Fund has made 12 growth stage investments (eight as lead investor in a syndicate) in ten different companies and one late stage investment. The Coinvest Fund has invested $7.6 million in Coinvest Fund portfolio companies since its first investment in 2007.

Fund Leadership

Key to the success of KCP and its funds is the experience of its managing director, Ken Johnson.

Prior to forming KCP, Johnson was an entrepreneur, angel investor, and start-up company manager. Johnson founded five companies, participated in the management of six companies, was CEO of three, and sat on the Board of Directors of seven start-ups.

As an angel investor, Johnson made investments in 12 companies from 1997 to 2004, making multiple investments in five of the companies. Of the 12 companies he invested in, three have failed, eight have had successful exits for investors, and one is operating.

Three of Johnson's portfolio companies were based in Europe and nine in the United States—six in Wisconsin and one each in Boston, Florida, and Minnesota.

Johnson's realized annual rate of return since 1997 on his angel investments has exceeded 50 percent annually, returning over ten dollars for every one dollar invested.
